PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) continues to strengthen its decarbonization efforts as part of the company's commitment to low-carbon operations and achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060. This commitment is realized through various initiatives—including energy efficiency, renewable energy utilization, and electrification—as well as the use of market-based instruments such as Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificates (SPE GRK). These instruments are issued by PT Energy Management Indonesia (Persero) (EMI), an entity specializing in consultancy for new and renewable energy, energy efficiency, and decarbonization services.
The awarding of the REC and SPE GRK serves as recognition of Telkom's successful management of Scope 1 and 2 emissions and its increased use of cleaner energy in operations at The Telkom Hub. This achievement also reinforces the implementation of the TelkomGroup Climate Transition Plan, launched in 2025 to provide a strategic roadmap toward low-carbon operations.
In his remarks, Telkom’s VP of Sustainability, Gunawan Wasisto Ciptaning Andri, stated, "Telkom continues to support the goal of achieving net zero emissions through the implementation of a Climate Transition Plan
carried out in a phased and measurable manner. The achievement of The Telkom Hub as a net-zero zone for Scope 1 and 2 emissions marks a significant milestone, demonstrating that decarbonization efforts can be tangibly implemented at the operational level. Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen these measures to drive increasingly low-carbon operations across the entire Telkom Group."
In a similar vein, Suratman, President Director of PT Telkom Landmark Tower (TLT), added, “As the manager of The Telkom Hub, we are very proud to have obtained the REC and SPE GRK certificates. This reflects our commitment to continuously improving efficiency. We are currently implementing Building Management System technology modules. We have conducted several energy assessments—covering technical aspects and equipment—as well as optimizing existing energy usage.”
Through this Climate Transition Plan, TelkomGroup has established a phased pathway for reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions: 20% by 2030, 40% by 2040, and 70% by 2050, ultimately reaching 100% by 2060. To realize this plan, TelkomGroup has identified six key decarbonization levers, including energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy utilization, and market-based instruments. This strategy was formulated by taking into account TelkomGroup’s emission profile—which is dominated by electricity consumption—the evolution of the energy transition agenda, and the need to maintain service reliability.
This move is also part of "GoZero% – Sustainability Action by Telkom Indonesia"—specifically under the "Save Our Planet" pillar. This pillar serves as the umbrella for Telkom’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs, driving various initiatives to ensure environmental sustainability.
At The Telkom Hub, energy transition efforts are underway through various initiatives utilizing renewable energy. According to Telkom’s 2025 Sustainability Report, 77 solar-powered street lighting units have been deployed across The Telkom Hub complex. This use of solar energy is projected to reduce electricity consumption at the Telkom Landmark Tower by 20,235.6 kWh annually.
In addition to the direct use of renewable energy, Telkom employs Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) as a market-based instrument to support the management of Scope 2 emissions. Telkom and its operating company, PT Telkom Data Ekosistem (NeutraDC), have purchased 45,407 RECs from hydroelectric power plants, a move with the potential to reduce emissions by 42,425.7 tonnes of CO₂e.
RECs are also among the instruments TelkomGroup is considering to achieve its Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets, specifically for reducing market-based Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Their use enables the company to support renewable energy adoption while enhancing the transparency and traceability of renewable energy attributes in electricity emission management.
These combined efforts have led to The Telkom Hub achieving net-zero status for Scope 1 and 2 emissions. This achievement marks a significant milestone in Telkom’s journey toward lower-carbon operations and the tangible implementation of its Climate Transition Plan.
EMI President Director Henri Firdaus stated, “As energy demands rise, energy efficiency and optimization are becoming increasingly critical. The goal of energy efficiency is not merely to reduce energy consumption, but to optimize available energy for more effective and sustainable use. Moving forward, we hope to remain a sustainable partner for Telkom, including by supporting efforts to manage and offset emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3 categories. Comprehensive emissions management is essential; it must address not only exhaust emissions but also waste management as part of broader decarbonization efforts.”
Telkom will continue to integrate decarbonization principles into its operations by implementing its Climate Transition Plan and various measurable decarbonization initiatives, all aimed at achieving the 2060 Net Zero Emission (NZE) target. These measures are designed not only to mitigate environmental impact but also to build operations that are more efficient and adaptable to the ongoing energy transition in a sustainable manner.
