PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) have established a strategic collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate digital infrastructure with low-carbon energy supplies. Demonstrating their commitment to accelerating the digital ecosystem, this initiative represents a concrete step by both parties in promoting the use of green energy to support sustainable green data center operations.

The signing was conducted by Telkom President Director Dian Siswarini and PGN President Director Arief Kurnia Risdianto in Jakarta on Friday (April 10). Also present were Bhimo Aryanto, Senior Director of Business Performance and Assets Optimization at Danantara Indonesia; Seno Soemadji, Director of Strategic Portfolio at Telkom; Catur Dermawan, Director of Finance at PGN; and Mirza Mahendra, Director of Strategy & Business Development at PGN. This agreement demonstrates support for strengthening cross-sector synergies in accelerating digital transformation and the national energy transition.

In this collaboration, Telkom acts as a developer of a digital ecosystem and data center that requires a low-emission energy supply, including biomethane, to support TelkomGroup's data center operations. Meanwhile, PGN provides this energy supply by utilizing biomethane derived from palm oil waste in the Sumatra region. The scope of the collaboration includes joint studies and exploration of green energy implementation in TelkomGroup's data center ecosystem, both domestically and internationally. This step lays a crucial foundation for ensuring the availability of reliable green energy sources as a key factor in the development of a new generation of efficient and sustainable data centers.

Bhimo Aryanto, Senior Director of Business Performance and Assets Optimization at Danantara Indonesia, stated that this collaboration is a strategic step in strengthening synergy between state-owned enterprises and global partners. "We see this collaboration as a crucial momentum to strengthen the integration between the digital and energy sectors. The synergy created will not only create efficiency but also open up opportunities for sustainable new value creation, strengthening Indonesia's position in the regional digital ecosystem," said Bhimo.

On the same occasion, Telkom President Director Dian Siswarini emphasized that this collaboration is a strategic step in strengthening synergy between state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to support the development of reliable and sustainable national digital infrastructure. "This collaboration supports the readiness of clean and efficient energy for sustainable data center development, while strengthening Indonesia's digital sovereignty and promoting Indonesia as a regional digital hub. This aligns with TelkomGroup's ambition to become a regional digital infrastructure powerhouse," said Dian.

In Indonesia, there are five strategic areas for TelkomGroup data center development that have the potential to be supported by PGN's energy supply: Cikarang, Batam, Serpong, Sentul, and Surabaya. These areas are integrated with PGN's existing gas pipeline network, enabling optimization of existing infrastructure while opening up opportunities for new network development.

Responding to this, PGN President Director Arief Kurnia Risdianto highlighted the strategic role of biomethane as a driving force in PGN's business transformation toward a low-carbon era. "PGN has gone beyond simply providing conventional natural gas to become a clean energy provider that serves as the foundation for future infrastructure. This biomethane initiative for data centers opens up new value-added opportunities while supporting the national energy transition," Arief explained.

In line with strengthening domestic cooperation with PGN, TelkomGroup also continues to expand global collaboration in developing a green digital infrastructure ecosystem, one of which is through a partnership with Sembcorp Development Ltd. Through TelkomGroup's data center entity, NeutraDC, this collaboration, which began in 2025, focuses on exploring the integration of digital infrastructure, platforms, and sustainable energy services.

This global collaboration includes the development of integrated, low-carbon energy-based solutions to support the operations and needs of enterprise customers. With this approach, all parties strive to strengthen the end-to-end strategy, from the availability of green energy upstream (supply), to the availability of electricity, and the development of integrated solutions downstream (use cases and commercialization).

The synergy between domestic and global collaboration is expected to create a more comprehensive ecosystem to support the development of AI-ready green data centers, while strengthening TelkomGroup's position as a key player in the regional digital ecosystem.

The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone for TelkomGroup in demonstrating its role as an enabler of a globally competitive national digital ecosystem, while also strengthening PGN's position in the development and provision of low-carbon energy for future digital infrastructure. By integrating the strengths of digital infrastructure and sustainable energy, both parties are optimistic about delivering innovative, scalable, world-class solutions that add value to customers and all stakeholders.
