As a form of commitment to strengthening the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) through the GoZero% sustainability movement carried out a real River Clean Up action on the Cioray River, Bandung, which is part of the GoZero% Goes to Bandung series of activities. This activity was held to coincide with the commemoration of World Clean Up Day (September 20) and World River Day (September 28).
The Cioray River was chosen because it contributes significant amounts of waste to the Citarum River, one of Bandung's most important rivers. In this initiative, Telkom, along with its collaborative partners, successfully removed 1,481 kilograms of waste from the river. This demonstrates the tangible impact of a collaborative, multi-stakeholder initiative to address the challenges of urban waste management.
"GoZero% is Telkom's initiative to grow its business responsibly, guided by Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. World Cleanup Day and World Rivers Day serve as a reminder that business growth must go hand in hand with environmental and social sustainability," said Telkom's VP of Sustainability, Gunawan Wasisto.
This activity involved approximately 75 participants, including Telkom management, employees, Telkom University students, and the Pandawara Group, a youth movement from Bandung that is now widely recognized nationally. Pandawara has a track record of more than 200 cleanup locations across Indonesia, involving thousands of volunteers, and collecting over 1,000 tons of waste. Their popularity on social media makes Pandawara an inspiring force capable of mobilizing public participation on a large scale.
"This collaboration proves that river cleanup activities can have a direct impact on the environment and the community. We hope this initiative can inspire others in other regions," said Edie Kurniawan, EVP of Telkom Regional II.
A representative from the Pandawara Group added, "We are pleased to be able to collaborate with Telkom. We hope that more parties will work together to protect rivers, as they are a source of life."
Through the River Clean Up initiative, Telkom emphasizes that the company's digital transformation must go hand in hand with sustainability. The GoZero% initiative also supports the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's (KLHK) target of achieving 30% waste reduction and 70% waste management by 2025.
With a collaborative spirit and active involvement from various parties, Telkom hopes this activity will inspire the expansion of similar practices in other regions and strengthen the company's contribution to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable ecosystem.
