PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) received the SDG Pioneer Award at the Reuters Events Global Sustainability Awards 2026, held in London, UK, on Wednesday (October 21). The award recognizes Telkom’s sustainability initiative, titled “Pioneering Indonesia's Path to Net Zero through Green & Blue Carbon Action,” which reflects the company’s commitment to supporting emission reduction efforts and achieving net-zero emission targets through nature-based solutions.

The Reuters Events Global Sustainability Awards is an international event that honors companies and organizations for sustainability initiatives that deliver tangible impacts on the environment and society. The SDG Pioneer Award is presented within the strategy and leadership category, underscoring the vital role of the business sector in integrating sustainable development principles into corporate strategy and operations.

Telkom’s Director of Human Capital Management, Willy Saelan, who accepted the award in person in London, stated that this achievement serves as an impetus for the company to continue strengthening the consistent implementation of sustainability principles.

"This award serves as motivation for Telkom to continue strengthening sustainability initiatives that deliver tangible impacts for the environment and society. We believe that business transformation must go hand in hand with environmental and social responsibility; thus, Telkom’s contribution is reflected not only in the company’s performance but also in our efforts to support the achievement of net-zero emission targets and the sustainable development of Indonesia," said Willy.

The award recognizes Telkom’s efforts—through its 'green carbon' and 'blue carbon' initiatives—to support carbon sequestration and ecosystem conservation. These efforts align with Telkom’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) commitment under the 'Bersama Jadi BISA' program umbrella, which fosters contributions toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through climate action, environmental preservation, and improved access to clean water and proper sanitation, ultimately creating a lasting, sustainable impact for both society and the environment.

This achievement serves as recognition of Telkom’s sustainability approach, which integrates ecosystem protection and restoration—through "green carbon" and "blue carbon" initiatives—to support carbon sequestration and the transition toward a low-carbon economy. In the "SDG Pioneer" category, Telkom competed against global companies that presented exemplary SDG-related initiatives. This success underscores the relevance of Telkom’s strategy, which aligns with both the national agenda and the company’s own business objectives. It is further bolstered by internal capabilities, including the development of an in-house "SDGs Dashboard" and the presence of two employees who have earned "SDGs Certified Leader" credentials from the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas.

In addition to receiving the SDG Pioneer Award, Telkom was also named a finalist in the "Social Impact Award" category for its initiative, "Water Provision and Sanitation: from Access to Lasting Shared Value, Powered by Collaborative Innovation." This initiative employs a collaborative approach to expand access to clean water and sanitation, fostering the creation of sustainable shared value for both the community and stakeholders.

Together, these initiatives represent Telkom’s sustainability approach, which encompasses both environmental and social dimensions. Amid the challenges posed by climate change and the pressing need to expand access to basic services, collaboration among the business sector, the government, the public, and other stakeholders remains a critical factor in amplifying the impact of sustainability programs.

Telkom’s commitment to sustainable business practices is also demonstrated through its active membership in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), which began on July 16, 2026. Through the UNGC, Telkom strives to incorporate the ten UN principles—covering human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption—into its corporate strategy, culture, and operations.

For Telkom, sustainability is an integral part of its efforts to create long-term value for both the company and its stakeholders. By integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects into its corporate strategy, Telkom aims to strengthen business resilience while fostering responsible growth.

Moving forward, Telkom will continue to bolster its various sustainability initiatives through collaboration, innovation, and the application of sound governance principles. In doing so, Telkom remains committed to contributing to the sustainable development agenda and promoting a more inclusive and environmentally friendly future.
